Keeping Our Community Safe: A Message from San Ramon’s Chief of Police
Dear Members of the San Ramon Chamber of Commerce,
As your Chief of Police, I am honored to contribute to this newsletter and share my thoughts on what makes San Ramon one of the safest and most vibrant communities in the Bay Area. Our city’s success isn’t just about law enforcement. It’s about the strong partnerships we build with businesses like yours, residents, and local organizations. Together, we create an environment where everyone thrives, and safety is a shared responsibility.
At the heart of our approach is the simple yet powerful principle: “See it, hear it, report it.” This mantra encourages us all to stay vigilant and proactive. If something seems off, whether it’s suspicious activity in a parking lot, unusual behavior near a business, or even a tip about potential threats, reporting it promptly can make all the difference. We’ve seen time and again how timely information from the community helps us prevent crimes and respond effectively. It’s this collaborative effort, combining police resources with the eyes and ears of our residents and business owners, that keeps San Ramon secure.
Last month, our community was shaken by a brazen takeover robbery at Heller Jewelers. A group of suspects stormed the store in broad daylight, smashing cases and fleeing with valuable merchandise. Thanks to quick action from our officers, the use of advanced tools like Drones as First Responders (DFR), and the tireless work of our Detectives and Organized Retail Theft Suppression Team, we’ve made significant progress in this case. To date, we’ve arrested 11 individuals connected to the incident, and our investigation continues in close coordination with several local and federal agencies as well as the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office. While we can’t share all the details yet, rest assured, we are committed to bringing everyone responsible to justice.
As we move forward, I encourage all Chamber members to join us in our collaborative efforts to promote public safety. Encourage your employees to be an integral part of this approach. By working together, we not only deter crime, but also strengthen the bonds that make San Ramon a great place to live, work, and do business.
Thank you for your ongoing support. If you have questions or ideas, my door is always open.
Stay safe,
Denton Carlson, Chief of Police San Ramon Police Department
